I am often adverse to using chemical based cleaners in the kitchen, especially in areas where there is constant food preparation or cooking the action. Also having kids around makes me more aware of using harsh chemicals that will end up in the air or being licked off a surface.

These are four great cleaning tips and concoctions I use in my own kitchen and around the house using lemons.

Super Lemon BBQ Cleaner

Crank your BBQ to full heat and let it get nice and hot. Then take a lemon and cut in half and rub  the lemon flesh side it directly onto the hot BBQ grill. You will see the grime and old BBQ crust start to come off immediately. One lemon will usually get the BBQ nice a clean ready for your BBQ dinner to start.

Lemon Cleaning Spray

Using a kitchen spray bottle cut 1 lemon into wedges and push into bottle skin and all. Then add 1/2 vinegar and 1/2 water. This creates a great no chemical cleaner that kills bacteria and germs and leaves a great smell and saves using harsh chemicals around kids. Use to clean benchtops and surfaces, even add it to the mop bucket for a great smelling clean.

Lemon Microwave Cleaner

Cut 2 or 3 slices of lemon and out them in a bowl of water. Heat for 45 – 60 seconds. This will make any crusts of stains easy to remove from the inside of the microwave and remove any lingering odours.

Super Stain Removing Lemon

Remove stains from cutting boards and countertops/surfaces. Cut a lemon in half and rub the flesh and juice onto the stain. Let it sit until the stain starts to disappear and then clean down. If your stains are still not clean this can be advanced by mixing a little baking soda with the lemon juice to remove harsh stains.
